This privacy policy explains how CurrencyWatch ("the app," "we," "us") handles your information. CurrencyWatch is published by Slipstream Consulting LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company.
Information the App Stores Locally
CurrencyWatch stores the following entirely on your device, using Android's standard application storage:
- Currency pair preferences — base and target currency codes, threshold values, alert direction, auto-bump settings, consensus mode preferences
- Alert history — a local log of the most recent 100 alert events, including the rate at trigger time
- App preferences — theme choice, check frequency, source toggles, notification toggle
None of this information ever leaves your device. We do not have a server to receive it, and the app does not transmit it anywhere.
Information the App Does NOT Collect
We want to be explicit about what the app does not do:
- No phone numbers. The app does not ask for, store, or transmit any phone number.
- No SMS. The app does not send or read SMS messages.
- No accounts. There is no registration, login, or user profile.
- No analytics or telemetry. We do not record app usage, crashes, screen views, button taps, or any behavioral data.
- No advertising identifiers. We do not access or use advertising IDs.
- No location data. We do not request or use location information.
- No contacts, photos, files, camera, microphone, or biometric data.
- No third-party SDKs for advertising, analytics, crash reporting, or push notifications.
- No data sent to Slipstream Consulting LLC or any server we control. We don't run a server.
What the App Sends Over the Network
The app makes HTTPS requests to three publicly accessible currency-rate APIs:
- Frankfurter (https://api.frankfurter.dev) — European Central Bank reference rates
- ExchangeRate-API open access tier (https://open.er-api.com) — blended central-bank data
- Currency-API by fawazahmed0 (https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/@fawazahmed0/currency-api) — community-maintained rates
These requests contain only currency codes (such as USD, EUR). No personal information, device identifier, account information, name, email, phone number, location, or any other identifying detail is included in these requests.
These providers may log incoming HTTP requests as part of normal web-server operation, in the same way any web service does. They have no information about who you are, and we have no relationship with them where we exchange data about users.
Purchases
CurrencyWatch is free to try, with an optional one-time in-app purchase to unlock the full version. Purchases are handled entirely by Google Play Billing — CurrencyWatch never sees or stores your card number, billing address, or any payment details. The app only learns whether the unlock has been bought, which Google Play reports back so your purchase is restored if you reinstall. Your transaction is governed by Google Play's own terms and privacy policy.
App Updates
The in-app "Check for updates" button simply opens CurrencyWatch's page in the Google Play Store, where you can see and install any new version. CurrencyWatch runs no update server of its own and does not phone home.
Notifications
When a rate crosses a threshold you've configured, the app creates a local push notification using Android's built-in notification system. This notification is generated on your device by the app itself. It does not pass through any remote server. We do not operate a push-notification backend; the app does not use Firebase Cloud Messaging or any equivalent service.
The first time the app launches on Android 13 or later, it asks for notification permission. You can grant or deny this; the app will work either way, but you won't see alerts if you deny.
Data Retention and Deletion
All app data is stored locally on your device. To delete all data:
- On Android: Settings → Apps → CurrencyWatch → Storage → Clear Storage (or uninstall the app)
Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all preferences, alert history, and any other data the app stored on your device. We have no copies elsewhere because we don't operate a server.
Children's Privacy
CurrencyWatch is intended for users 18 years of age and older. The app is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect any information from any user, including children.
Security
Because all data is stored locally on your device, the security of that data depends on the security of your device (screen lock, OS-level encryption, etc.). The app uses Android's standard application sandbox, which restricts access to the app's data on non-rooted devices.
All network requests to currency-rate APIs use HTTPS.
Your Rights
Because we do not collect or store any data on any server, there is no data on our side for you to access, correct, port, or request deletion of. You retain full control of your data through the device-level options described in "Data Retention and Deletion" above.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy if the app's behavior changes. Material changes will be reflected in an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this document, and the updated policy will be available at the same URL where this policy is hosted.
